I got the most difficult virus on my computer back when I usesd IE, and after two weeks solid of finally eradicating it, I read that it mainly preyed on IE.
Next day, I installed Firefox and never used IE again.

I have IE8 installed as there is one website I use which only works on IE.
As long as your anti virus software is up to date and running you should be fine with IE, however, I much prefer Firefox and use it 99.9% of the time.

At work I'm forced to use IE. Problem is they it's IE Version 6!
At home I primarily use Firefox. Love it! Much better than IE.
